BIOGRAPHY
Jonathan Harker (Ecuador, 1975) lives and works in Panama. In 1999 he graduated with honors with a degree in Film and Media Studies from the University of Florida in Gainesville, United States. He obtained First Prize at the VI Panama Art Biennial (2002), as well as Honorable Mentions at the VIII Cuenca Biennial (2004), the III BID Latin American Video Biennial (2006) and the VI Santo Domingo Drawing Salon, in the Dominican Republic (2007).
In 2007, Harker represented Panama at the 52 Venice Biennale. In 2008, he received a grant for Latin American emerging artists from the Cisneros Fontanals Foundation (CIFO). He has participated in numerous group shows, which include: Changing the Focus: Latin American Photography (1990-2005), at the Musuem of Latin American Art (MOLAA) in Long Beach, California (2010); Borderless Generation: Contemporary Art of Latin America, at the Korea Foundation Cultural Center, in Seoul, South Korea (2009); Laid Together on the Lookout, at Danielle Arnaud Gallery, in London, U.K. (2009); What Images Want: Video From Hispanoamerica, at the ICO Collectiones Museum, in Madrid, Spain (2007); Doubtful Strait, at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MADC), in San Jose, Costa Rica (2006); Producing Reality: Art and Resistance in Latin America, in Lucca, Italy (2004); and All Included: Urban Images of Central America, at the Conde Duque de Madrid Center for the Arts, in Madrid, Spain (2004).
In collaboration with Donna Conlon, he has also exhibited at the Palais du Tokyo, in Paris, France. (2009); at the 10th Havana Biennial, in Cuba (2009); at Giorgio Persano Gallery, in Torino, Italy (2007); at Samson Projects, in Boston, United States (2007); and the Atlantic Center of Modern Art (CAAM) in Grand Canary Island, Spain (2007). In June of 2010, Conlon and Harker will participate in the XXXI Pontevedra Biennial, in Pontevedra, Spain.
